Product Description
The Kettneraspis sp. (aka Leonaspis) trilobite was a bizarre creature of the ancient seas. The broad and long array of spines was likely a display protection against potential predators. The free cheeks of these extinct creatures had a unique fringe of small spines projecting outward, as well and one cannot wonder if they served to help stir up the ocean floor to aid in search of food as the creature crawled across the sea bottom. The eye stalks protruded up of the cephalon to a greater extent than most other trilobites of this region and period. In addition, a robust head spine projected upward and back from the region between the eyes. Kettneraspis is a fragile trilobite to prepare due to its delicate pleural and genal spines but when complete, they are beautiful ancient arthropods to display and always in VERY limited supply.
With this example, we proudly offer an affordable GENUINE example of this scarce spiny trilobite. Excellent intact anatomy and fine detail cheek spines are even seen. A supreme authentic example from a type that is never found in great numbers.
With all our specimens, we include a written, non-expiring guarantee of authenticity. Similar to all trilobites found in the world, the only way these fossils are located is to break the trilobite-bearing rock therefore, repair and sometimes, restoration to the damage is unavoidable.
