This is a spectacular COMPLETE stone and shell necklace from the ancient Pre-Columbian Indians of South America, most likely from the Moche or Lambayeque Cultures. In nearly every stone bead necklace you see offered for sale on the open market, the stone bead necklaces are all randomly assembled from multiple sites and sources of the beads, to resemble a complete necklace. Pendants are added sometimes and they too, are not original to the beads. This offering is the FIRST time we have seen an ORIGINAL and COMPLETE necklace where ALL the components are included together as originally worn. The large 6 inch neck protector in the back is the core of a large whelk shell. The iguana pendant is also carved from the core of a large whelk shell and the damage to the head is ancient. The white beads are also shell. The beautiful blue SODALITE stone beads resembling a blue sky with light clouds, are made from sodalite, indigenous from South America. The beads were all found together and date back to an very old collection we acquired in the States dating to the 1950's. Never will you see a complete ensemble as magnificent as this being original as it was once worn. Don't let the damage to the pendant put you off. Finding an original, complete piece of stone and bead jewelry from this culture and period again will most certainly not be repeated. Pieces like this almost never make it to the public market. The large shell neck protector is the first time we have seen this piece incorporated properly into a necklace. That piece alone is rarely found and when found, always found alone so its purpose has been a mystery for the most part.
All beads other than the carved iguana centerpiece are INTACT WITH NO REPAIR OR RESTORATION. We cannot emphasize enough just how scarce a find like this piece is. With individual Pre-Columbian beads sometimes selling for prices in excess of $500 for a SINGLE BEAD, here you have a once-in-a-lifetime ensemble in original configuration complete with all shell and semi-precious stone components. If one wanted to get the carved centerpiece restored, that is possible and we can do that for an additional modest price but we offer this ULTRA RARE set as originally found.
A TRUE MUSEUM CLASS SPECIMEN OF PRE-COLUMBIAN STONE BEAD JEWELRY MOST CERTAINLY ONCE WORN BY THE HIGHEST CLASS OF WEALTH
