Product Description
Heteromorph or "uncoiled" ammonites are a type of cephalopod that are much more rare than typical solid coil ammonites. This type of heteromorph ammonite features an open coil with space in between each whorl to the center. The exact species is not determined but these circular varieties are even more rare than the J-shaped open coil specimens found in the same region. This unusually large example is one of the finest we have handled and it has been prepared fully exposed with a portion of the rock left attached to form a natural base to stand on.
THIS IS THE LAST AMMONITE OF ITS KIND WE HAVE TO OFFER!
The quality of preservation on this remarkable specimen is RARE and every bit of ridge detail you see is 100% natural and original, not carved. Detail you see (on both sides!) is fully exposed and 100% authentic. Like other ordinary ammonites found in the deposit, white examples are found as well as brown examples but this specific one has a stunning mottled light cream on one side and golden brown color on the other. From the coastal Cretaceous fossil layers of Agadir, Morocco, heteromorph ammonites of this circular, open-coil nature are only very rarely found in this size class. ALL of the natural chamber detail preserved upon completion of matrix removal. Beware of completely carved fakes that offer no trace of original chamber detail as this is a problem in the market today. Ammonites that occur this size naturally are EXTREMELY RARE! This ammonite can be viewed on BOTH sides and both sides exhibit ALL NATURAL chamber detail as seen in the above photos.
With its three-dimensional form and texture, this ammonite specimen will bring any event to a halt when displayed. It is in a class all its own, not only desired by collectors, but treasured by interior designers and architects alike for incorporating into a stunning display. We highly recommend this magnificent giant fossil to either augment a collection or serve as a monumental interior design piece.
