With the vast majority of Paleolithic flake tools of prehistoric humans being made of flint or quartzite, tools made of unique stone types that possess aesthetic and unusual properties were most certainly prized and valued. No stone is more intriguing than crystal quartz. This material is not only extremely hard and makes for a long-lasting razor-sharp edge, but its glowing translucency and sparkling features must have been magical to prehistoric humans living in a world without any of the modern technology we take for granted today.
This is a RARE Neanderthal flake tool that was as functional as much as it was a PRESTIGE PIECE. It possesses one of the most amazing sparkling feature to the stone having a pearly fire to the sparkle as well as letting light through when held up to a strong light source. It is a BACKED KNIFE which employs a flat back on one side to press down with the fingers, while the opposing edge has a sharp flaked cutting side. This rare stone tool was fashioned by Neanderthals over 40,000 years ago out of gem-grade CRYSTAL QUARTZ. It was collected from a former Neanderthal occupation site in France, considered to be the "Capitol of Prehistory". The site this specimen was excavated from is now closed and protected by the government. The fact that this archeological site is off-limits to any collecting, makes this wonderful stone tool artifact exceedingly rare and desirable! Because collecting these artifacts has been off-limits for many decades, genuine fine grade Mousterian Neanderthal tools such as this specimen are most certain to continue to appreciate in value as time goes on.
This entire specimen is in perfect, AS MADE condition with a rich natural soil sheen from long-term sediment burial. Original minerals and patina deep in microscopic crevices and hinge fractures provide evidence of its prehistoric authenticity, traits not found in modern or altered copies. A prehistoric Neanderthal prestige tool, this is a beautiful, as well as rare Neanderthal artifact. NO RESTORATION, REPAIR OR MODERN DAMAGE.
