CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT BISON (WISENT)
This well-preserved fossil thoracic vertebra of the EUROPEAN STEPPE BISON of the final Ice Age, aka Bison priscus. In Europe, this classic Pleistocene beast is also known as the STEPPE WISENT. The tall dorsal process served to support the massive muscles and tendons that this animal possessed in its upper body region. The Steppe Wisent lived in the days of Europe's last Ice Age when Neanderthals and Cro-Magnon Man hunted these beasts and memorialized their hunts and reverence for these creatures in their famous cave paintings. It is also important to note that this is a REAL FOSSIL found deep in the Pleistocene Period river gravel deposits, unlike modern (Holocene) bison bones found in North America.
Bone preservation is excellent with some losses to the transverse processes and centrum. The specimen is very heavy and densely mineralized. NO REPAIR and NO FABRICATION.
