The variety and types of animals that once thrived in North America during the prehistoric ages is nothing short of spectacular and practically unbelievable. Teleoceras hicksi (hicksii), a unique North American grazing rhinoceros, once thrived in large numbers on the continent. Fossils of T. hicksi are more rare than T. proterum. This beast is not commonly seen in fossil collections and would make an unusual addition to advanced displays of prehistoric beasts of North America that are often overlooked and not typically taught in schools or publicized.
This is the finest fossil bone of this rare beast we have ever seen. It is a complete, spectacular TIBIA bone with minute anatomical detail and both articulating joint surfaces all in immaculate, perfect preservation. Typical Bone Valley color in a stunning charcoal blue color with underlying gold tones. Bone has been cleaned in our lab to reveal beautiful details. What looks like holes or chips in the bone are actually tiny foramen in the bone. This bone is really heavy and sounds like ceramic when lightly struck. An INCREDIBLE fossil bone to handle! This fossil deposit used to be open to collectors decades ago but has long since been closed to collecting by penalty of felony trespass. As of this posting, the mining company was shut down due to environmental reasons so no mining operations are even taking place at this time. The fossils that are found in this deposit are so unique in color that they often can be attributed to this deposit SIMPLY BY THE COLOR ALONE! This is a perfect example of that rule. This fossil Rhino bone shows preservation unlike any other specimen we have seen and coming from Bone Valley makes it all the more rare. INTACT and WITH NO RESTORATION AND NO REPAIR.
