Primitive horse fossils are usually limited to isolated finds of teeth and some bones. This is a rare fossil tibia leg bone of a primitive three-toed horse of a species that is seldom found in comparison to other early horse remains of the period - Nannippus sp.. This was a three-toed browsing horse that emerged in North America during the Miocene Period and lived until the Pliocene. Other than isolated teeth, fossil remains of this species are not common. This perfectly preserved limb bone demonstrates how small these creatures were. Color is natural and specimen is intact and complete with spectacular preservation on all portions including complete articulating joint surfaces. This is an important fossil to complete a horse evolution fossil exhibit made up of museum-level specimens. This piece is 100% AUTHENTIC WITH NO REPAIR OR FABRICATION.
