Product Description
Originally quarried from a rare locale in Eastern Europe, this is a large, beautiful white limestone TRACE FOSSIL from prehistoric wave action on an ocean floor. The solid stone slab was once part of a Jurassic ocean floor, complete with perfectly preserved ripples from wave action approximately 160 million years ago. In the source deposit, most of the ripples were not well-preserved or concentrated as this piece is. We hand-selected a limited collection of pieces direct from the former quarry manager, carefully choosing all the best pieces with beautifully defined prehistoric wave action ripples preserved in the stone as this piece exhibits. Once we sell the collection, we will not be able to acquire any more as the quarry has long since been closed. This is one of the most intriguing architectural display fossils we have ever offered. Amazing to see and even more amazing to touch!
The slab is of an even thickness and could be mounted on a wall if a custom-made frame were to be made. Slab can also be laid flat as it was originally formed beneath the sea. If laid flat, this would make an incredible base to display smaller fossils of various ocean life resting on it such as fossil shark teeth, ammonite fossils or trilobite fossils. The rock is hard, durable and very stable, so much so that this slab could even be walked on without damaging the ripple pattern.
Some of the largest dinosaurs that ever walked the earth were in existence when these ocean floor ripples were formed. As that was happening, monstrous prehistoric sea reptiles such as massive plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs, swam over this fossilized sea bed. Formed by ocean waves 160 million years ago when dinosaurs ruled the Earth!
