As incredulous as it may seem, this happens to be the finest and most complete major fossil dinosaur bone we have ever offered. What is ironic is that it is one of the most fragile and yet was found underground and in large, well-preserved sections. It is a pubis (pubic) bone from the hip of a Edmontosaurus hadrosaur. As an ornithischian dinosaur, the long, delicate process that protrudes backward is amazingly complete to the very end and required only repair to a few breaks. The hips of dinosaurs with forward-oriented pubic bones approximated the hips of lizards, so they are called the saurischians (“lizard-hipped”). The hips of dinosaurs with backward-oriented pubic bones, on the other hand, looked like those of birds, and these animals were cast as ornithischians (“bird-hipped”). The two fundamental classifications of all dinosaurs are based on this bone!
Collected from the famous Hell Creek Formation of Northwestern U.S.A., this is truly a ONCE-IN-A-LIFE discovery! The entire color and surface of the bone is impossible to improve on. Never will you find a pubic bone from ANY ornithischian dinosaur of the quality and preservation as this specimen. It really should be molded and cast as it is the quintessential example of what these bones should look like!
This is the predominant hadrosaur that can be found in the Hell Creek Formation of Northwestern U.S.A.. Considerably more rare than the price suggests!
