Product Description
This is a fantastic large natural concretion that we prepared without breaking as it most common on these fossils. Revealed naturally together is a host of gastropod and ammonite fossils dating to the final days of the dinosaurs. These ammonites and sea snails lived in the sea of the same time and region as famous dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus rex, as well as the horned dinosaurs and duck-billed dinosaurs.
The Fox Hills Formation is most famous for producing ammonites with a rare, colorful iridescence to their preserved shells. Not all fossils from this formation produce the colored shells. Most are plain white. The rarest are the colorful ones such as featured here in this large concretion. Shown together are colorful Scaphites and Discoscaphites ammonites, as well as a larger iridescent impression and a multitude of sea snail fossils. The ammonites show incredible detail and if you look closely, even iridescent INTERIOR detail! A number of other species can be seen, all sporting a colorful nacre from their original preserved shells!
These fossils are not rare unless they show color as these do. Most of the ammonites found are white or mostly white. The rarest are found in this multi-colored iridescent form! An additional rarity is the fact that this nodule has NOT been broken. All ammonites show intact features.
Keep as it is for a fascinating conversation display specimen, or this could even be prepared further to fully expose more colorful fossils laying deeper in the nodule. Perfect to accompany any advanced fossil marine life collection as well as a stunning and highly unique interior design fossil of pure natural history!
