Covered in numerous tetrapod footprints from the Permian Period, this is a phenomenal and scarce ichnofossil specimen. The prints are protruding up from the very fine, siltstone rock plate as they are the negative prints, the positive side did not survive extraction. This specimen came from a very old German collection and unfortunately, no collection notes were available. Tracks like these are known throughout Europe and they are believed to have been made by tetrapods such as temnospondyls, captorhinomorphs, and araeoscelids or similarly sized sauropsids. Some of the more obvious footprints have been highlighted with a clear sealer but here are numerous other prints and claw drag marks on the plate. Out of the entire collection we acquired, this was one of only two tetrapod footprint fossils and the only one in red siltstone. VERY SCARCE with NO FABRICATION.
