This AAA GRADE large gem Amethyst crystal cluster lamp was made from a large single natural cluster of Amethyst that was found in Brazil. The cluster specimen shows the finest rich purple gem grade amethyst with excellent crystal structures. The Amethyst is 100% natural and not dyed or subject to artificial irradiation to enhance the color as many are! The total weight of this cluster is 16 lbs / 7.3 kg, larger than more cluster gem lamps on the market. The quality, as well, is much nicer than typically seen. We sourced this directly from a Brazil mine outlet and it took us going through many barrels before we found a specimen of this color and quality.
The cluster has been bored from the underside so that a light can be placed inside to illuminate the crystal. A corded lamp kit is included with a purple LED bulb. The overall size of the cluster is 9" high x 9" wide x 4" thick. The wooden base is 10" wide by 6" deep.
Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz. Ancient Greeks wore amethyst and carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication. Amethyst, a semiprecious stone, is often used in jewelry. Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz and owes its violet color to impurities of iron (Fe3+) and in some cases other transition metals, and the presence of other trace elements, which result in complex crystal lattice substitutions. Amethyst is a three-dimensional network of tetrahedra where the silicon atoms are in the center and are surrounded by four oxygen atoms located at the vertices of a tetrahedron. This structure is quite rigid and results in quartz's hardness and resistance to weathering. The hardness of the mineral is the same as quartz, thus making it suitable for use in jewelry.
