Product Description
UPDATE: After further comparison and inspection of this piece, we have concluded with relative certainty, that this is a skull element of Sigilmassasaurus. See image above of published Sigilmassasaurus for comparison.
This wonderfully preserved and dense fossil theropod dinosaur skull element compares most favorably to the anatomy of Sigilmassasaurus. Since fossil bones of Sahara dinosaurs are extremely scarce and not fully studied, absolute certainty to a specific species is often impossible. This rare piece appears to come from the posterior dorsal region of the skull.
Fossil dinosaur bones of the Kem Kem Beds, are extremely scarce and the price does not indicate the true rarity of this example. NO REPAIR OR RESTORATION.
Sigilmassasaurus is a genus of tetanuran theropod dinosaur that lived approximately 100 to 94 million years ago during the middle of the Cretaceous Period in what is now northern Africa. Sigilmassasaurus was a moderately-built, ground-dwelling, bipedal carnivore, like most other theropods.
