Product Description
This rare fossil is from Europe, was legally exported from Europe and can be legally shipped to any country. It was not illegally exported out of Russian (Siberia) as ALL Russian / Siberian Ice Age fossils are. Shipping Siberian fossils across country borders risks seizure of the shipment without reimbursement. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3757538/Photographs-reveal-illegal-mining-selling-woolly-mammoth-tusks-Russia.html
With this listing we present an EXTREMELY RARE tusk from the Woolly Mammoth, Mammuthus primigenius, of the last European Ice Age. This is a rare female tusk. The proximal end is naturally flat and solid with a visibly growing core exposed. A large area of the tusk is adorned with stripes and colors of super rare BLUE IVORY, as a result of being fossilized in an environment rich in vivianite to create the natural blue-gray tint on the surface. Blue ivory is the MOST DESIRED of all fossil mammoth ivory. It is a subtle grayish blue hue, never intense blue, unless it was dyed! The blue color in this tusk is natural! This tusk has NOT BEEN ARTIFICIALLY DYED to make the blue color which seems to be more common in today's market. Such enhancement SUBSTANTIALLY DEVALUES the tusk!
A beautiful custom made stand is included as shown hand-crafted out of hardwood and stainless steel.
Tusk is in AMAZING condition with an extremely dense heft to it. The tusk is solid and the fossil ivory is very heavy. Minor repair and crack filling was required only. This is not a broken partial piece like many tusks offered on the market. This specimen has been stabilized to protect from any deterioration or damage. It is safe and durable to display in any interior environment. Truly it will make for a "show-stopping" exhibit for any private or public setting.
OUR TUSKS HAVE BEEN OUT OF THE WATER AND DRIED FOR OVER 15 YEARS AND ARE STABLE. MOST TUSKS SOLD ARE FRESH FINDS AND UNLESS DRIED IN A DEHUMIDIFIED ENVIRONMENT FOR A MINIMUM OF 2 YEARS, THEY WILL MOST LIKELY CRACK AND SPLIT.
SPECIAL NOTE: Russian (Siberian) mammoth tusks are so common that they are typically priced by weight instead of the individual merit of the specimen because of the huge quantity of Russian (Siberian) tusks available. They are like a commodity, not a rarity. True European Woolly mammoth tusks are far more scarce than Russian (Siberian) tusks and fetch higher market prices because of this.
WOOLLY MAMMOTH TUSKS are one of the most popular large display fossils of any collection. Even the casual observer recognizes this type of fossil and the value and appreciation of a COMPLETE fossil ivory tusk from the great Woolly Mammoth has garnered international appeal and awe. The famous Woolly mammoth can be considered the mascot animal of the Earth's final Ice Age and this massive beast most certainly gained respect to all that got in its way including both Neanderthals and modern humans. The lore of Cave Paintings and Neanderthal hunting parties are embodied in the magnificence and power of a genuine fossil mammoth tusk of Europe's final Ice Age where the Woolly Mammoth ruled the frozen tundra.
