This authentic stone tool was fashioned by Neanderthals over 40,000 years ago out of flint and discovered in the world famous region of Dordogne, France, considered to be the "Capitol of Prehistory".  The site this specimen was excavated from is now closed and protected by the government.  The fact that this archeological site is off-limits to any collecting, makes this wonderful stone tool artifact exceedingly rare and desirable!  Because collecting these artifacts has been off-limits for decades, genuine fine grade Mousterian Neanderthal tools such as this specimen are most certain to continue to appreciate in value as time goes on.

This is a superb MOUSTERIAN NATURALLY BACKED KNIFE.  It was made on a flake leaving a portion of the natural outer cortex to be used as the smooth back edge of the knife.  This allowed the index finger to push down and apply pressure comfortably during cutting uses.  Intact original burial sediment is present and visible in the hinge fractures when viewed under magnification - a trait ONLY found in authentic prehistoric tools.  The cutting edge is sharp and exhibits signs of prehistoric use.  A superb example from this famous region!  NO RESTORATION, REPAIR OR MODERN DAMAGE. 

This prehistoric flake tool came from a large Dutch collection that was formed numerous decades ago.  The collection comprised tools found in rock shelters with other numerous tools and some broken fossil animal bones, mostly likely fractured for the prized marrow inside, a valuable Neanderthal food source.  Our fortunate purchase of this private collection from the original excavator allows us to offer this rare specimen.
