CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT BISON (WISENT)
This well-preserved fossil atlas vertebra of the EUROPEAN STEPPE BISON of the final Ice Age, aka Bison priscus. In Europe, this classic Pleistocene beast is also known as the STEPPE WISENT. The atlas vertebra is what supported the skull and was the first vertebra of the spinal column. It is a highly unique vertebra and all mammals only have one of these in the vertebral column. This massive and INTACT specimen is truly a prize fossil of these Pleistocene Ice Age giants. Normally, fossil bones of any Ice Age animal are found broken and in poor preservation but the quality of preservation on this specimen is excellent. Entire vertebra is without any breaks or repair and only has drying cracks we kept as it was found. The entire vertebra is solid and INTACT WITH NO REPAIR OR RESTORATION. The hue is a rich dark reddish brown and the anatomical detail is well preserved and intact. 100% genuine and as found. A duly impressive fossil to demonstrate the robust size of these revered Ice Age beasts.
