This rare fossil is from Europe, was legally exported from Europe and can be legally shipped to any country. It was not illegally exported out of Russian (Siberia) like all the Siberian fossils are on the market. Shipping Siberian fossils across country borders risks seizure of the shipment without reimbursement. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3757538/Photographs-reveal-illegal-mining-selling-woolly-mammoth-tusks-Russia.html
This is one of the most incredible large display fossils from a Woolly Mammoth we have ever had the pleasure of offering. It comes from a 40+ year European collection and frankly, in our 30 years of business and traveling Europe, seeing the finest collections, we have never seen a piece as impressive as this. This is the complete underside of a huge skull from a giant Woolly mammoth, Mammuthus primigenius, of the last European Ice Age. This piece comprises the complete maxilla and palate with both original molar teeth, one zygomatic arch, the ventral side to both tusk alveoli and the entire ventral portion of the forward skull. Based on the span of the tusk openings, the tusks would have been 22 inches in circumference - the MAXIMUM size of a Woolly Mammoth tusk so we can surmise this piece came from a large bull elephant. Both molar teeth are original and still embedded in the skull as found. Even the thin walled roots are visible from the inside of the skull on the back. The interior of the skull shows amazing spongy structures - classic anatomy of how all elephant skulls are formed so that they are strong but lighter in weight to carry on the skeleton versus a solid bone skull. This specimen was brought up in a fishing net from the North Sea, in two pieces, broken down the middle. That is the only repair it required. There is a 2 inch crack on the surface of bone by the right molar that was filled but other than this, the fossil is 100% ORIGINAL AS FOUND. We fully cleaned and prepared this in our lab and left many of the original sea barnacle deposits on the interior to demonstrate its former marine environment.
Never again will we have a piece as nice, large or complete as this.
This specimen has been stabilized to protect from any deterioration or damage. It is safe and durable to display in any interior environment. Truly it will make for a "show-stopping" exhibit for any private or public setting.
