Product Description
This is one of the finest fossil lower tusks we have ever offered of a strange beast of the last Ice Age in North America, the giant beaver Castoroides ohioensis. This is the LOWER tusk which are usually found in shorter proportions compared to the upper tusks. The front tusks are the number one desirable fossil of this creature. This is truly a perfect specimen. What's more, it is COMPLETE AND UNBROKEN. It is whole from the portion that was embedded deep within the jaw to the end which has a textbook wear pattern on the extreme tip from the upper tusk when the animal was alive. These tusks are extremely hard to locate in fine quality examples that are this long and without repair or restoration. The LOWER tusk which is what this specimen is, is even rarer to find in this size and quality. Even restored and repaired specimens of this size have sold for very high prices. The unique deep ridges are perfectly intact and the enamel is a naturally lustrous midnight black.
For a collection of fossil tusks, this will certainly be one of the most unusual additions and for quality and size, it is impossible to upgrade! An INVESTMENT GRADE, pristine and COMPLETE tusk from a FULL-GROWN prehistoric Giant Beaver, intact from the base all the way to the naturally-sharpened chisel tip! NO REPAIR and NO FABRICATION!
