While more common decades ago when fossils from this deposit appeared in the U.S. market, fine quality fossil teeth of this rare Miocene carnivore fossil from China are very difficult to locate today. This is a complete, molar of a Dinocrocuta gigantea, a strange massive beast that is classified as a hyena-like feliform. Basically, this prehistoric monster was the largest bone-crushing hyena that ever lived with features like a lion. As a matter of fact, Dinocrocuta was larger than a modern African lion!
This is a complete large molar tooth still embedded in its original jaw bone. The inside of the crown can be seen in the last photo and it shows the tooth is completely crystallized inside. Whether to compliment a fossil collection of the world's most dangerous prehistoric apex predators, or to be made into a powerful amulet pendant, this is a pristine and large bone-crushing molar tooth of one of the most terrifying meat-eaters of its time and region in the world. MORE RARE THAN A EUROPEAN CAVE LION OR SMILODON MOLAR TOOTH!
This remarkable specimen came from a very old private U.S. collection originating back to the early 1980's before the wave of fake Chinese fossils flooded the world market as they have today.
