Product Description
This is a cervical neck fossil vertebra from one of the most famous beasts of the last Ice Age - the Woolly Rhinoceros, known scientifically as Coelodonta antiquitatis. It was collected during fishing operations, from the Ice Age fossil-bearing Doggerland ocean floor sediments of the southern North Sea. We cleaned this specimen in our lab with a microblaster, to reveal the spectacular preserved detail. There were some barnacles from the ocean, attached to the anterior centrum joint face, which we opted to keep as a demonstration of its ocean provenance. It is virtually complete and in a remarkable, unbroken state. Notice that this centrum face is missing the articulating joint indicating this vertebra was not fully ossified and therefore, from a juvenile Woolly Rhinoceros.
Woolly Rhinoceros fossils are far less abundant than other Ice Age beasts such as Woolly Mammoth. This vertebra is INTACT and with NO REPAIR AND NO RESTORATION. A highly recommended fossil from one of Europe's classic beasts of the Ice Age!
This fossil would also make a great compliment to a primitive man stone tool and weapon collection as they lived alongside each other at one point in history and were hunted and revered by both Neanderthal man and Cro-Magnon man.
