CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT GASTROPODS
Presented here is one of the most aesthetic giant fossil sea snail specimens we have ever offered for sale. This is such a fantastic fossil for several reasons. It is both, a scientifically impressive specimen being a completely natural occurrence of a group of enormous Jurassic sea snails. Its detail and high 3D relief as well as its warm natural colors, make it also an idea interior accent piece for any setting. The sea snail shells, identified as Natica sp., protrude so high off the rock that you can lay this piece flat as well as display it up on the stand provided.
The rock containing these spectacular fossils was dug out of the deposit and then each sea snail was exposed as it was originally buried in the rock. This kind of work was extremely labor-intensive and involved many hours with air pneumatic tools and scribes to chisel away the rock that covered the fossils as they lay. The rock is also removed from deep inside the spiral whorls of the gastropods, exposing beautiful interior anatomy. The fossils are shown in their ORIGINAL POSITIONS IN THE ROCK AS FOUND - THEY ARE NOT ARTIFICIALLY ARRANGED LIKE MANY GROUP FOSSILS. A sealer has been put on the sea snail fossils themselves to increase the contrast to the surrounding matrix but aside from that, the fossil is 100% ORIGINAL AND INTACT WITH NO RESTORATION. We have only a a few of these remarkable specimens to offer.
