Product Description
Collected from the famous Hell Creek Formation of Northwestern U.S.A., this is a SUBSTANTIAL piece from the head frill of a Triceratops horned dinosaur. Normally only found in small pieces, this is large section of the frill bone surrounding the head. Most importantly, it comprises the edge which is THE MOST DESIRABLE of any Triceratops frill fossil piece. It was discovered buried with only the edge exposed hence the lighter color having been weathered from the elements. It was found in pieces and reassembled in our lab, requiring only crack filling and restoration to the breaks. Along with the horns, the head frill is the most unique bone separating horned dinosaurs such as Triceratops, from all the other types, making this a fascinating and important fossil for any dinosaur bone collection.

HISTORY
Triceratops is the most famous of the great horned dinosaurs. This plant-eating group has been found in the fossil record in greater abundance than all the other varieties. A full grown Triceratops is estimated to have weighed 11 tons, heavier than a modern African bull elephant. Its skull was 6.5 feet long with a pair of brow horns that exceeded 3 feet in length.
