Product Description
This is a large and perfectly preserved carapace section from the dinosaur-era turtle Hamadachelys sp. found in the Cretaceous dinosaur fossil rich Kem Kem Red Beds of North Africa. Cretaceous turtle remains are amongst the absolute RAREST turtle fossils. This region of the world occasionally produces individual turtle shell pieces (hardly ever from this species) but finding a larger portion of the shell that is not crushed, is such a rare find. Despite years and years of overseas travel to the fossil deposits of the Kem Kem Beds, this is the first time we have seen a fossil like this and in this quality of preservation. It is large enough and preserved in such impeccable condition that it is easy to attribute it to this species. For the passionate fossil turtle collectors, this is an important and recommended specimen to acquire.
A RECONSTRUCTED FOSSIL OF THIS TURTLE CAN BE SEEN HERE
Color is beautiful in shades of plum purple, red, blue and pink. We only lightly micro-blasted this specimen but have areas of silicified sand on some surfaces that can be removed with further lab cleaning, if desired.
