Product Description
This is a scarce Miocene crab fossil originally found in the famous deposits of Bosa, Italy. It is a natural and complete example of a Portunid type extinct crab. It is still embedded in the original block of gypsum as it was found, and has a ventral exposure with all appendages seen, which also, is rare. Fossils from Italy have been protected from collection or export for many decades, making specimens like this, extremely rare and only available when they come up for sale from an old collection, acquired before any laws were in effect. This piece was acquired from a very old German private collection, formed in the 1950's and 1960's and is the only fossil we have to offer from this entire region or formation. It was acquired crudely prepared and we further prepared this piece in our on-site lab, lowering the surrounding matrix to better reveal the crab body and legs. It is an extremely IMPRESSIVE and aesthetic piece that is impossible to replace.
