Today, finding a fine quality 4.5 inch Spinosaurus dinosaur tooth is extremely difficult. Even in the "golden years" of collecting, we would always return from our trips with a few 4 inch and even 5 inch teeth of beautiful quality. Not so today. The deposits now have been so heavily worked and destroyed by decades of destructive methods that even a choice grade 3 inch tooth is a prize! This mammoth-sized dinosaur tooth is spectacular in both its enormous size and its supreme condition, which is highly uncommon for large teeth like this. It measures a full 4.5 inches in length with feeding wear on the tip. If it were not for the wear, this HUGE tooth would be FIVE INCHES LONG. It is also extremely FAT and would have come from a MAXIMUM SIZE Spinosaurus dinosaur. For a tooth to be this size and to be UNBROKEN is so rare! We cannot recall the last time we had a tooth of this magnitude and be unbroken. The tip is ESPECIALLY RARE to be this quality for such a large dinosaur tooth since a Spinosaurus this size would have fed frequently and violently, often damaging or wearing the tips of their massive teeth down to blunt nubs.
There is NO REPAIR, RESTORATION OR FABRICATION. An absolute rarity in what is found today!!!!!!!!
Any specimen near or over 4 inches in fine condition WITHOUT ALTERATION OR RESTORATION as this beauty is, always carries a hefty price tag and the buyer demand for dinosaur teeth this size in fine quality is ever-increasing. Teeth of this size and in such pristine condition are in extreme demand and always will be. We strongly recommend this amazing example to any collector because prizes like these are no longer being found like they once were and steady appreciation of prices in the market are already reflecting that.
WARNING: A common trick to fake large dinosaur teeth in the market is to attach either a bunch of sand mixed with glue on the end of the tooth's root to exaggerate the length or even worse, fabricate a giant impressive tooth by combining and blending multiple teeth sections together to appear as one massive tooth or to fabricate the bottom portion of the tooth and extend, by a much as DOUBLE OR MORE, the original length of the tooth before work started. The workmanship of a few notorious United States-based fakers is of the finest workmanship and VERY convincing in appearance. There have been European fakers also known to create and sell these large teeth. Don't be fooled when you are shopping for large dinosaur teeth of ANY SPECIES, not just Spinosaurus. These are common practices of both unscrupulous and uninformed dealers. We see these "doctored" large dinosaur teeth offered quite frequently and numerous junk, worthless teeth that have been converted and heavily modified are selling for ridiculously high prices, mostly at shows and on the internet. Ebay is one of the worst places for this where fraud runs rampant and unchecked in the entire rare collectibles field but some fossil show dealers and internet sites have been pawning these "creations" off for years now, as well!
