Product Description
The Zlichovaspis (Odontochile) trilobites are of a graceful and beautiful design. With their long genal spines and streamlined pygidium terminating in a fine point, it can easily be seen why trilobites have been called "the butterflies of the ancient seas".
As if it is diving down back to the bottom of the ancient sea, this remarkable Odontochile hausmani trilobite features not only choice condition of preservation, but a dramatic method of preparation was employed. This specimen possesses the most difficult method of lab preparation technique performed. The entire trilobite is floating freely in mid-air with only a small portion of rock left attached to the ventral side of the thorax. The cephalon and pygidium are completely exposed with even ventral edges exposed. Even both genal spines have all the rock removed from between them and the sides of the cephalon!!! The time and skill that went into this piece amounts to innumerable hours of tense work. You will not find a more impressive and attractive specimen that has been prepared free of the rock as this example. Beautiful surface detail with entire trilobite fossilized in a dark olive green which contrasts in an aesthetic manner with the butter cream yellow original host rock on which it was once entombed. Truly a top-notch display piece with immense visual appeal.
With all our specimens, we include a written, non-expiring guarantee of authenticity. Similar to all trilobites found in the world, the only way these fossils are located is to break the trilobite-bearing rock therefore, repair and sometimes, restoration to the damage is unavoidable.
