Product Description
Impossible to upgrade! Many new trilobites have been discovered from Morocco in the past several decades but Erbenochile remains famous for two reasons - never before has a Devonian species been found to possess such extraordinarily large eyes relative to its body size as this. Secondly, the trilobite, as amazing as it looks, remains EXTREMELY RARE. This one is even more rare than the ordinary varieties as this is a LONG SPINE VARIANT Erbenochile, far more scarce in numbers than the already rare typical type. In every way, it is the absolute finest and most aesthetic one you could ever hope to find. This is as good as it gets and if you have always wanted the FINEST example of this rare trilobite, AND one that is a rare variant of such, then this is one that should not be missed. The spines running down the back of this specimen are DOUBLE the length of what is typical.
The hallmark of this species is its massive eye stalks but in this rare variety, we have extraordinarily long dorsal spines that are fully preserved and exposed. Adding to the already impressiveness of this example is the fact that it is fossilized in a natural GOLD hue! Gold color Atlas Mountain trilobites of the Devonian are highly uncommon compared to the typical black or gray specimens. They are prized by collectors not only for their amazing unique beauty, but the anatomy is easier to see in this lighter color. Every spine and anatomical detail is perfectly preserved and exposed on this INVESTMENT CLASS example. Massive eye stalks show lens detail throughout. Without question, this Erbenochile is the most perfect representation of the species. It is absolutely a gem specimen with perfect articulation, ALL anatomical spines present, GENUINE, and fully exposed. Every delicate spine shows on the rock and major spines are floating, free of any surrounding matrix! The specimen has been meticulously prepared and far exceeds what is usually found on the market, not to mention those example that are either replicas or originals with replica spines. Compare to a 2009 Bonhams auction in which a far inferior version of the ordinary spine Erbenochile variety sold for $7250! THIS ONE IMPOSSIBLE TO UPGRADE!
