Product Description

This is a spectacular gold nose ornament likely from the Pre-Columbian Zenu Indians of Colombia.  It is nearly pure gold (probably 22-23 karat in purity, alloyed with other metals to maintain some durability after being hammered into a thin sheet and cut.  The shape is a simple and attractive elliptical shape with a large circular opening.  The two points would have been clipped on the septum of the wearers nose and the piece, hung down below the nose.  Objects like these were usually reserved for noble and wealthy classes and gold of this culture, was the Indians' pinnacle of a statement of power and status.  This example is guaranteed to be ancient and in original condition and has been carefully inspected in our lab.  It lacks any modern evidence of recent manufacture or tooling.  Some gold nose ornaments are alloyed heavily such that the gold is a low karat purity, giving the piece a silvery gold tone.  The rich color of this specimen attests to its purity.  WEARABLE!
