CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT WOOLLY MAMMOTH
This rare fossil is from Europe, was legally exported from Europe and can be legally shipped to any country. It was not illegally exported out of Russian (Siberia) as ALL Russian / Siberian Ice Age fossils are. Shipping Siberian fossils across country borders risks seizure of the shipment without reimbursement. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3757538/Photographs-reveal-illegal-mining-selling-woolly-mammoth-tusks-Russia.html
With this listing we present the largest mammoth tusks we have ever offered and here, in a matched pair. Each monstrous tusk measures 11.5 feet (3.5 meters) long, on the curve with circumference near the base of over a foot and a half around! This is probably one of the most impressive Ice Age fossils that a person or institution could reasonably display. The tusks WERE the mammoth and the first thing that anyone looks at when they see a skeleton is the tusks. Often, the price of the tusks can exceed the price of a full skeleton without tusks. Sadly, today (year 2013), the giant Siberian source mammoth tusks found are going straight to China for carving and purchase by one of their newly minted millionaires (tusks this size are virtually unheard of from Europe). We have known individual large tusks like this to sell for over $1 million dollars in that market. While a single massive tusk is immensely rare, to have a PAIR is more than doubly rare! It is most probable that we will NEVER have another EUROPEAN SOURCE mammoth tusk pair of this size to ever offer again. Tusks from European deposits are infinitely more rare to find compared to the volume and number of tusks found each year in Siberia. Siberian sources are so plentiful that the tusks are sold by the weight. These tusks are too rare to sell by the weight THE NATURE IN WHICH THEY ARE FOSSILIZED COMPARED TO SIBERIAN AND ALASKA EXAMPLES, TUSKS FROM THE NORTH SEA DO NOT MINERALIZE AS HEAVY SO COMPARING TUSKS BY WEIGHTS OF THE DIFFERENT LOCATIONS, IS IRRELEVANT. Furthermore, tusks of this magnitude are so rare, they are in the same class as a rare painting or vintage automobile. A Picasso is not sold by the weight and neither are rare fossils.
Coming from a 40+ European collection, this is the first and only time we have ever seen a pair of mammoth tusks for sale from Europe, of this enormous magnitude. Crack filling and repair amount to approximately 5-7% overall. Each tusk is COMPLETE with the entire hollow ended portion on the back end that would have been embedded in the skull. Incomplete tusks will lack this anatomy. The grain and quality of these tusks is phenomenal! This is an INVESTMENT-CLASS pair.
A beautiful custom made stainless steel stand is included as shown, hand-crafted especially for this pair. The overall room needed to keep clear of this pair in the stand is 70" long x 63" wide x 66' high if the base is set on the floor.
These tusks have stabilized to protect from any deterioration or damage. They are safe and durable to display in any interior environment. Truly it will make for a "show-stopping" exhibit for any private or public setting.
Woolly Mammoth tusks are one of the most popular large display fossils of both, collectors and non-collectors, alike. Even the casual observer recognizes this type of fossil and the value and appreciation of a COMPLETE fossil ivory tusk from the great Woolly Mammoth has garnered international appeal and awe. The famous Wooly mammoth, Mammuthus primigenius, can be considered the mascot animal of the Earth's final Ice Age and this massive beast most certainly gained respect to all that got in its way including both Neanderthals and modern humans. Tusks of the great Wooly mammoth of the last European Ice Age are a crown jewel in the collection of many fanciers of prehistory. Compared to the tusks from Siberia and Alaska, tusks OF EUROPEAN ORIGIN ARE THE MOST SCARCE and are one of the most demanded fossils of the classic European Ice Age. A specimen of this quality from Europe is FAR MORE RARE THAN THE SIBERIAN examples. The lore of Cave Paintings and Neanderthal hunting parties are embodied in the magnificence and power of a genuine fossil mammoth tusk of Europe's final Ice Age where the Woolly Mammoth ruled the frozen tundra.
