This is a beautifully preserved upper tooth from the giant ground sloth Paramylodon harlani from prehistoric Florida during North America's last Ice Age. Chewing surface is intact with excellent natural wear on the occlusal surface. Defined growth lines are seen and the entire enamel surface is glossy from the natural process of the river current. Jet black and a large, heavy and beautifully impressive showpiece from the jaws of a bizarre creature that died out during America's final Ice Age. For the advanced collector that takes pride in exhibiting atypical, non-commercial fossils of exceeding rarity, this specimen is an ABSOLUTE MUST! From an old and extremely impressive private collection of Florida fossils. Guaranteed NO REPAIR and NO RESTORATION. This beauty is AS FOUND!
Paramylodon harlani was the larger of the two species of Mylodontid giant ground sloths to appear in North America during the Pliocene. The main obvious trait of Mylodont molars are their tri-lobed form. The massive canine teeth wear against each other in the upper and lower jaw thereby continually sharpening into angular-faced chisels.
