Not particularly impressive from a visual standpoint, this offer is far more rare than the understated appearance of these two bowls. For a museum or a collector who takes pride in extremely rare objects, this is not one but TWO Bronze Age incised bowls from ancient Greece. We all know the prevalence of ceramics from Classical Greece but pottery from this pre-civilization era has been nearly impossible to find for a private buyer up until now. These two bowls are from a time that most do not think about when they think of Ancient Greece. The designs are simple, incised lines on the outside with black and red pigment on one partial, repaired example, and perfect intact preservation on the gray example. Pottery of this period RARELY survives and despite its lack of elaborate decoration or design as the much later ceramics could boast of, no museum or collector of Greek Bronze Age objects, should pass a chance to acquire such rare primitive pottery when available like this. Acquired by the original collector between 1927 and 1954. Take note, ancient GREEK objects like these are far more rare then later period Roman examples due to the scarcity and smaller size of Greek civilization compared to the latter massive, Roman Empire. NO RESTORATION - ONLY REPAIR ON THE RED BOWL AND INTACT ON THE GRAY EXAMPLE. GUARANTEED 100% AUTHENTIC AND COMES WITH A WRITTEN GUARANTEE STATING SO.
Be wary of modern copies that have been around for many decades and sold to unsuspecting tourists and brought back as an "authentic" piece, now littering numerous old collections. In our own museum lab facility, we subject to rigorous inspection and authentic every artifact we offer for sale, accompanied by a written lifetime, unconditional guarantee of authenticity and proper identification.
