HISTORY
Brachylophosaurus was a member of the hadrosaur family of dinosaurs. It was first discovered in 1936 and described in 1953 from a skull and partial skeleton that was collected from the Judith River Formation of Montana, USA. More famous was the discovery in 2000 of what scientists consider to be one of the most important dinosaur discoveries of all time - a completely mummified Brachylophosaurus skeleton, nicknamed Leonardo. This discovery was even noted by the Guinness Book of World Records for its rarity. Following that, several other wonderfully preserved skeletons were discovered. Brachylophosaurus grew to a length of 9 meters, a typical size of other adult hadrosaur species. What sets Brachylophosaurus apart from other species is the skull featured a flat, large bone plate over the top like a lid. Longer than typical forelimbs were also a unique trait of this hadrosaur.
