SEE MORE EUROPEAN NEOLITHIC TOOLS
This genuine European Neolithic ground celt stone axe is a classic artifact of all New Stone Age (Neolithic) societies. While tools were still knapped and flaked, a new invention, the ground stone celt axe, arose. This axe was more durable for tasks from wood-working to warfare. The axe was made by grinding out its shape entirely yet some types, used both flaking and grinding techniques. The axe was then hafted by lashing to a wooden shaft handle. While smaller than typical celt axes, a specimen such as this could have been used attached to a small handle, for refined wood-working chores such as shaving or shaping wood objects.
English Neolithic artifacts found locally are not common in collection outside of the UK making this example a unique collection addition from the first farming society of England. It was found in Deal, near Kent and its original intact collection label indicates it was found in 1973. It is undamaged and perfect as originally made with original sediment deposits in all its micro-crevices - a trait ONLY seen in authentic specimens.
