This rare fossil is from Europe, was legally exported from Europe and can be legally shipped to any country. It was not illegally exported out of Russian (Siberia) as ALL Russian / Siberian Ice Age fossils are. Shipping Siberian fossils across country borders risks seizure of the shipment without reimbursement. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3757538/Photographs-reveal-illegal-mining-selling-woolly-mammoth-tusks-Russia.html
This is a very solid and heavy tip of a European Woolly Mammoth tusk, found in the North Sea off the coast of Holland. It features an unusually sharp tip, made when the mammoth was alive and digging as it foraged for food. This tip was found alone as you see it and required approximately 15% of filling to mostly restore the upper surface and tip. This tusk is unusually heavy having been well-mineralized for thousands of years, buried in the ocean floor of the North Sea which was once a dry valley before the glaciers melted in the final Ice Age of Europe.
Today, of the Woolly Mammoth fossil tusks you see for sale, the majority are recent finds and come from Siberia (illegal) or Alaska. As recent finds, they are prone to cracking and splitting over time, lacking several years needed to properly stabilize the tusk. Specimens from Europe are the rarest, as this one is. Furthermore, this tusk was found over 20 years ago and is completely stable with no risk of falling apart.
WOOLLY MAMMOTH TUSKS are one of the most popular large display fossils of any collection. Even the casual observer recognizes this type of fossil and the value and appreciation of a fossil ivory tusk from the great Woolly Mammoth, has international appeal and awe. The famous Woolly mammoth can be considered the mascot animal of the Earth's final Ice Age and this massive beast most certainly gained respect to all that got in its way including both Neanderthals and modern humans. The lore of Cave Paintings and Early Man hunting parties are embodied in the magnificence and power of a genuine fossil mammoth tusk of Europe's final Ice Age where the Woolly Mammoth ruled the frozen tundra.
