Product Description
This is a superb and complete, undamaged ground stone war axe from the Pre-Columbian West Mexico Shaft-Tomb Culture. It shows expert workmanship in its form and polish - masterfully ground and polished out of hardstone. Axes like these were lashed onto wood handles and were effective weapons at both chopping and breaking bones. The reduced size head allowed the axe to be deployed swiftly with devastating results in combat. It was found in the Lake Sayula Region of Jalisco, Mexico. This stone war axe is the finest possible example of its type and comes from the famous Dr. Allen Heflin Collection, formed from his work in Mexico from 1946 into the 1970's. Intact mineral deposits testify to its age and authenticity, as seen in the accompanying photos.
