Product Description
Advanced fossil collections are defined by the magnificence of the specimens that they contain and this is one of those pieces that elevates a collection to one of great importance. It is a spectacular partial prehistoric JAGUAR mandible of unusual light preservation with a complete array of all the original teeth including a magnificent, large fang. The teeth are a gorgeous dark, rich gold color that beautifully compliments the light color of the fossil bone. This investment-class fossil was found as you see it and no teeth were added or glued to composite a more complete jaw. There is NO RESTORATION and only a few cracks at the front in the bone were filled. The fang is whole and unbroken as it was found and is the original canine tooth as can be seen by the matching light cream brown hue to the inside of the crown in relation to the bone.
This is an EXTREMELY SCARCE fossil jaguar jaw and is certainly an extraordinary opportunity to acquire an impressive and scientifically rare specimen of one of the dangerous apex predators of North America's final Ice Age. Even as a Florida-based paleontological supplier, this is one of only a few we have ever handled and the FIRST TIME we have offered such an impressive specimen of this large cat for sale!
Pleistocene cat fossils from North America are amongst the most prized by advanced collectors. Not only is the attraction to these animals driven by the romance of their fierce predatory nature, but fossils of prehistoric felines are very rare and seldom available for sale. High quality and intact specimens without restoration are even MORE rare. Felids represent many of the apex predators of their day in prehistory just like today. As mostly solitary hunters, their fossil remains are amongst the rarest of all vertebrate fossils simply due to the low numbers of the animals when alive in the wild.
