Product Description
This is a RARE, finest quality example of a COMPLETE and UNWORN molar tooth from a prehistoric extinct elephant called Gomphotherium sp.. It is an UNWORN tooth with full knobby cusps, something rarely seen in fossil molars of this animal. This giant of the last Ice Age, was a bizarre prehistoric ancestor to the modern day elephant. Finding complete, unbroken fossil teeth are very rare of this animal with most discoveries being only partial pieces of the teeth. Specimens showing the complete crown are NOT common which makes this a VERY valuable tooth for research or study as well as a display piece to demonstrate the unique properties of teeth from these extinct beasts.
The enamel is in the finest condition, chocolate brown and naturally lustrous with growth lines. The root is hollow and was still forming as seen in the above photo.
