Product Description
The extinct shark Carcharocles. auriculatus was the first shark in the lineage of extinct Great White Sharks. It is considered by some to be the first ancestor of the massive extinct killer shark - Megalodon. Most noteworthy on the teeth of the Auriculatus shark are the pronounced cusplets flanking the crown. Fine grade teeth are very rare for this shark species and actually, far less abundant than most other prehistoric large sharks.
This is a beautiful collector quality tooth with unusual colors. It has some enamel erosion on the lingual side but all other aspects of this tooth are superb. The color is a fantastic mottled splash of bronze, copper and pearly silver hues, all contrasted by the dark chocolate brown complete root. Superb preservation on the very sharp serrations and side cusplets, where most auriculatus teeth have wear and damage. Advanced fossil shark tooth collectors gravitate to collecting high grade teeth of unusual, beautiful color and this one has it!!
