CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT AFRICAN NEOLITHIC TOOLS
The vast majority of flake tools from the Neolithic of Capsian Tradition of Africa are a fraction of the size of these massive examples! These are some of only a handful of flake tools this size we have ever seen in 31 years of handling this material. This is a set of THE LARGEST WE HAVE EVER SEEN examples of Capsian Neolithic handled picks. Based on the known warfare of the culture and excavated skeletons with arrowhead wounds, we actually believe these could have been very effective and intimidating stabbing weapons. Both were made from tabular flint and both are complete with ingenious design and flaking to the large flint pieces. Each is heavily patinated, one in white with an amazingly narrow tip. The brown example shows a very robust stabbing blade and deeply flaked finger grip handle. Both pieces have integral grips on the flint, something we have seldom seen in this Neolithic culture.
Both are EXCEPTIONAL examples, are UNBROKEN and AS MADE! Both tools feature wind polish and a natural glossy finish from millennia of long term exposure to the desert. You could not ask for more impressive and top grade specimens of these two tools of this African Neolithic culture! BOTH are of the highest degree workmanship and are complete and intact. Like all AUTHENTIC specimens, these show original mineral sediments still impacted in the hinge fractures and micro-crevices. NO RESTORATION, NO REPAIR.
