This is a RARE fossil molar tooth from one of the largest of prehistoric elephants that ever lived in on the planet, the giant mammoth known as the SOUTHERN MAMMOTH or scientifically as Mammuthus meridionalis. Fossil of these massive beasts of the final Ice Age are uncommon and perfect additions to exhibits or collections to demonstrate the early lineage of the mammoth. The teeth of the Southern Mammoth are unique and show different anatomy in the plate structure compared to other species of mammoths.
From a recent museum de-accession of rare European mammoth fossils, we are pleased to offer one of the rarest fossil teeth of any European mammoth - a CHOICE GRADE tooth from a juvenile Mammuthus meridionalis. This tooth shows superb preservation and color. The anatomy of the tooth shows obvious simple plate structure which this mammoth species is known for. The tooth is complete with every important antomical feature. This is not a spit tooth and the baby mammoth died this tooth in the jaw. Because of this Ice Age museum collection we are offering, this is the only time we could ever offer a tooth like this. Due to changing legislation, we will no longer offer ANY mammoth fossils when this collection is sold out. This tooth is not only rare because of the young age of the mammoth but it is also rare because it is from the Southern mammoth, not the Woolly Mammoth. Entire molar is stable and solid of excellent mineralization. This tooth has NO REPAIR AND NO FABRICATION. 100% GENUINE!
ALL our Mammoth teeth are dried for at least one to two years prior to selling to ensure against disintegration. They are then chemically treated in multiple steps with multiple types of hardeners to protect their intact nature. We guarantee your tooth will not fall apart. If you purchase a Woolly Mammoth fossil tooth from ANY SOURCE without the supplier performing this lengthy drying process and treatment, cracks will likely grow and it WILL likely fall apart as the tooth can take an extremely long time for the core to fully dry.
