This Saharan Acheulean hand axe was made and used by Homo ergaster (African Homo erectus). It was surface-collected from an exposed Acheulian site in the Northwest Sahara Desert of Africa. This Lower Paleolithic tool represents the first intelligent design type known to science that was made by primitive humans. Prior to these Saharan Acheulean tools, only crude pebble tools existed in the human fossil record.
A special feature of this Bifacial Hand Axe is the very thin cross-section making it an idea cutting axe. Superb secondary flaking workmanship and a proximal end that fits in either hand. This is a superb reference specimen of the finest possible example featuring all the premium features for this period and technology. Natural desert wind erosion along with bi-color patina - traits of authentic Acheulian artifacts indicative of long-term exposure on one side as it lay undisturbed and exposed for millennia. In "as found" ORIGINAL condition with NO REPAIR AND NO RESTORATION. An absolutely highest possible grade of this type and recommended as AUTHENTIC large specimens of this quality are hard to find today.
